Welcome to SSNW, the Official Website for the USARS Speed Skating NorthWest Region.  This is a very basic site, to start, and will hopefully progress to become a very informative area for all.  Take a look around and let us know if there are any changes or additions that we can make to make this site more useful to the skaters and families in our region.

The Northwest Region Season Opening Meet is this weekend at Gresham.  From the event’s facebook page:

• 2016 season opener speed meet Sanction #17-044
• All USARS distances will be run, 2 person relays only
• No mixed relays & no grand divisions
• $25 1st event $10 each additional
• Entry deadline October 1st
• Doors open at 5 am First race at 6 am
• Fresh Roll On coating (4 weeks) on 185 by 92 skating surface
• Practice on Oct. 14th 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm
• $7 per skater includes evening public session
• Spectator fee $5 includes meet program

RESULTS

All skaters, whether they are competing at meets or not, must have a valid Amateur Card (membership card).  You are not allowed to participate in team practices without one either.  If you had a card last season, it expired August 31, 2016.

USARS has a new Online Member Registration Page where you can sign up or renew your card.

You probably don’t yet have a Password for this new system, so you will have to click on “Click here to initialize your password” before you can renew.

You will need to know your Membership ID#.  If you don’t know it, you can look it up here.  Enter the last year you were active “2016“, “Members“, “S NW“, “Speed“, and leave Search blank.  This page is temperamental, so if you don’t get the results you expect, keep playing around with it.

If your membership number is rejected, try it’s alternate form.  For example, if your number is 12345, but that’s not working, try 0012,345.

If you prefer to renew the old fashioned way, you can download the Application Form and mail, email, or fax it in with your payment.

One of the major goals for SSNW is to make available the detailed results for every meet.  The results are now in for the Season Opener at Gresham last weekend, October 15-16, 2016.  SSNW would like to extend a big “Thank You” to last weekend’s tabulator, Robin Pfanders, for making that happen.  Here are the RESULTS.

Hey Everyone,
We wanted to get out some basic info for the Tacoma Invitational. We are excited to be hosting this for our 3rd straight year. We know it’s early on in the season so we added some fun events for those of you who aren’t quite ready to race division yet. We are doing a 3 person this year. The teams can be mixed or all guys or all girls. It’s 3 laps 3 times. In addition to this we will still have our 3 person pro-am race, where you will get to pick your favorite NSC skater to compete on your team, and we are still doing the 100m Time Trial. Please spread the word. NSC trials will be hosted during the meet like previous years, and the NSC pro night will be on Sat. We are working the schedule so we can add some of the younger divisions to race during NSC pro night to showcase some of the younger talent in our sport. See all of you soon. Robin Olson will be sending out the entry forms to your Coaches soon.

• $30 for elite division
• $20 for beginner division
• $15 for additional division.
• If you skate both beginner and elite it is only $45
• Relays $15 each
• If you are only skating relays and not division, you only pay $15 per relay. There is NO first event fee!

RESULTS

After many years without a meet, Skagit Speedsters are proud to be hosting a meet in December.

We are still hammering out all of the details, but we will be running Novice Juvenile and up and all Elite divisions, with the exception of Grands. In addition, 2-person relays will also be ran. First event is $30 and each additional event is $15. Watch for entry forms and more information in the next couple of weeks.

Practice will be held at 5pm on Friday, December 2nd and will cost $5. Competition is Saturday and Sunday, December 3rd-4th. Spectators are FREE.

We are planning an AWESOME meet! Please share and we hope to see you there!

Racing Details:

This is an ability competition. Final groupings will be determined once all registrations have been recieved. Track is 111 meters on an NHL size sheet. Awards will be given based on place within each grouping. Groupings are based primarily on skater ability rather than age and gender so that, as much as possible, all skaters will have the opportunity to be competitive within their groups. Final groupings are at the sole discretion of the competition director. Awards given to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places.

Most competitors will compete in 5 races. For the higher ability groups, this will be 1000m (heat and final), 500m (heat and final), 1500m final. If time allows, there will be a super final 3000m.

COMPLETE EVENT RESULTS

Participants will utilize a portion of the half marathon course, starting near 400 S and 900 E, and will skate through the downtown and Sugarhouse areas. The skate event is open to inline and quad skaters of recreational, fitness, advanced and pro race levels. The course is relatively flat and smooth with slight grade variation. Average skating speeds range from 10-20 mph with the pro racers reaching 25 mph in the finish sprint.

The National SpeedSkating Circuit heads to Lincoln NE

USA Roller Sports announced a major collaboration today with the National SpeedSkating Circuit to host an NSC event at the 2017 US Indoor Speed Skating National Championships to be held in Lincoln, Nebraska.

NSC President, Miguel Jose, and USARS Sport and Operation’s Director, Ricci Porter, spearheaded the idea of bringing the NSC to Lincoln.

“The collaboration between the NSC and USA Roller Sports came with our card holding members and their families in mind,” Porter said.  “We wanted to add additional value to the US Indoor Speed Championships and we thought what better way to do this, than showcasing some of the best the sport has to offer the night before the Speed Championships start.”

The NSC event will be held on July 15, 2017 at 6PM.  As part of the proposal, the NSC volunteered to donate $3 per ticket sale toward funding of the US World Team.  Jose explained, “Inline speed skating is such an amazing sport, and the NSC feels a responsibility to help create an environment for our current skaters to share in the same opportunities the previous generation did.”

The proposal was passed by the speed committee, finance and board of directors. Third generation rink owner, speed coach and speed committee member Shaun Pattison said, “I think it’s a great idea to bring the NSC to US Speed Nationals.  I’ve been fortunate enough to watch several NSC events live and they are always a lot of fun.  This is an awesome opportunity for all the skaters who are not from the West Coast to watch NSC live.”

“At the end of the day,” Pattison said, “I am for anything that gives my skaters and their parents another reason to attend Nationals.”

“We are really excited to shake things up a bit.  We are working towards a more progressive climate at USA Roller Sports and the collaboration with the NSC is one of our first steps in a new direction. Increasing activities that attract more attention to the sport and increase memberships is a vital component of our mission.” said Board President Bill Spooner.
